We hope you are enjoying our “Swimming Biographies” page on the Arkansas Masters website. Each month you can read about two new swimmers. If you haven’t participated yet, please complete this Google Form and let us know a bit about you. Highlighted this month are Daryl Sroufe and Carie O’Banion.
Grants for events, coaches and competitors
We feel strongly that having certified coaches, and hosting events (both fun and competitive) is important to building a robust community of masters swimmers in the state. Towards that end, a few years ago, the Arkansas Masters LMSC budgeted funds to encourage and assist our members in several ways. Read about our grant opportunities below, and consider what can you do to promote masters swimming in your area! We are here to support you in your efforts.

Bentonville Community Center Fall Mixer Meet
The masters swimmers in Northwest Arkansas will be hosting a SCY meet in Bentonville on Sunday, October 21st. Please attend if you can, and bring a friend. The entry fee is only $15 for USMS swimmers, and $30 for one-event swimmers. Click here to register.
Recent Meets and Records Broken
A few swimmers competed at a Short Course Meters meet in Roeland Park, KS last weekend. It was a fun meet at an outdoor pool, and the KC folks were thrilled to have some Arkansans attend.
The following citizen records were set at that meet:
Carolyn Hyink: 50 M Back, 100 M Back, 100 M IM, 50 M Free
Carie O’Banion: 50 M Fly, 100 M Fly, 100 M Free
Also, several of our swimmers (Tina Nuckles, Starr Campbell, and Sharon Ard, etc.) competed at the Arkansas Senior Games in Little Rock recently, but I haven’t been able to find the results yet. I do know that several of those swimmers qualified for National Senior Olympics in Albuquerque next spring. Congratulations!
