Megan Cameron is running a robust masters program in Joplin, MO underneath the umbrella of Arkansas Masters.  Since short course meter meets are tough to find, we talked Megan into hosting a meet at the Missouri Southern State University pool.  I know it will be a fun meet with Megan involved, so put it on your calendar:  Sat., September 28th.  Click here for registration.

Open Water Swim Returns to Northwest Arkansas

After a few years absence, an open water swim was again hosted at Beaver Lake in late July.  This year’s host was the Rampy MS Research Foundation, and Arkansas Masters helped to sponsor the event which included over 100 swimmers.  Below are a few photos from the event with some of our own masters swimmers…

Arkansas Records Broken

Wow!  Lots of new Long Course records set by our swimmers this past month!  And might I point out that Dotty Burke, age 80, swam the 400 IM, long course!  Holy cow am I impressed!  I hope that I haven’t left anyone out – please let me know if I did and I’ll catch you next month.

Linda Bland:  400 Free, 800 Free, and 1500 Free (Citizen and State)
Dotty Burke:  50, Breast (C), 100 Breast (C & S), 200 Breast (C) ,  200 IM (C&S), and 400 IM (C)
Veronica Dockery:  200 Fly (Citizen)
Scott Halliburton:  200 Fly (Citizen)
Srdan  Markovic:  50 and 100 Breast (Citizen) 
Doug Martin:  100 Free (Citizen and State)

USMS Top 10 – Short Course Yards

Congrats to Dotty Burke, Byron Shefchik, Scott Halliburton, Doug Martin and Jack Gooding.  These swimmers made the Top 10 List for Short Course 2019.  That season ran from June 1, 2018-May 31, 2019.  Quite the honor!

Representing Arkansas at LC Nationals

These men represented our LMSC at Nationals this month in Mission Viejo, California, and boy did they rack up the points!  Below are events where they placed in the top 10 for their age group at this meet:

Ross Karakivak: 7th:  400 Free, and 4th:  800 Free
Srdan Markovic:  7th:  50 Free,  6th:  50 Breast, and 4th:  100 Breast
Doug Martin: 1st:  50 Free and 2nd:  50 Fly
Marvin Schwartz:  3rd:  200 Free,  3rd:  400 Free, 3rd:  800 Free
Trip Strauss:  4th:  200 Free, 1st:  400 Free,  1st:  800 Free

It is also worth noting that Trip’s 400 Free time placed him as the  8th fastest swim in history (US swimmers, not world) all-time for his age group.
