1 Dam Mile Race, Sunday Sept. 26th

Bonnie Adams reported about the event that was held on Sept. 26th at Beaver Lake:

The DAM Mile happened! They came. They swam. They had a great time! We had 59 swimmers participate in the swim on Sunday, September 26, 2021. One participant described it as a “festival.” That was the goal! We wanted the participants to have a great time AND the spectators to have one as well! Free music, free food, and free drinks for all attendees. It was an absolutely gorgeous swim with amazing weather. For over 40% of attendees this was their first open water race. Here are a few comments from some of the participants…”The Dam Mile race is a terrific event. The whole family participated. Excellent venue, after-race perks and swag. A great time was had and we look forward to next season.” “Great location, staff was so hyped and friendly, goodies and food were awesome, overall great atmosphere!!””Great event, fun swim. Swim OZ definitely had this event organized, structured, and event communication was clear and understandable. Especially loved that fact that awards were actually presented AFTER everyone finished.” Here are the results for the event. DAM Mile results

USMS Annual Meeting 2021

Carie O’Banion served as the delegate for our LMSC at the virtual annual meeting held over the weekend of Sept. 24-26th. Although we are only allowed one delegate, Byron Shefchick also attended because he serves on a national committee (the Legislation Committee). While there were several Zoom workshops and meetings prior to the weekend, most of the legislation was acted on over the 8+ hours of virtual meetings that weekend.

The annual meeting consisted of the normal business of USMS, including awards being handed out and various rule and legislative updates. The most notable discussion was whether to have the annual meeting continue to be virtual in the future or return to in-person gathering. The delegates voted to return to in-person. So if you’re interested in becoming more involved in USMS, please let us know if you’d be interested in attending next year; most of your costs will be reimbursed!
