Upcoming Events – Lots of Swimming Opportunities Happening This Summer!

July 9, 2022. Texas Ford Aquatics Heat Wave, Frisco, TX. This is a long course meet in the Dallas area.

July 15-17, 2022, July Jam, Bentonville, AR. This is a long course, dual sanctioned meet at the outdoor pool, Melvin Ford Aquatic Center.  The masters swimmers will have a shade tent to gather under (look for the Arkansas Masters banner). Entries for this meet will be a bit different.  To enter, email your USMS number, your events, and seed times to nwaasharksao@gmail.com. Payment will be required when you arrive at the meet (see the clerk of course).  Exact cash or check are accepted. See attached for details, and please contact byronshefchik@yahoo.com for more information.

July 30, 2022, Trifest for MS Open Water Swim Challenge, Beaver Lake – Rogers, AR. (Any currently registered Arkansas Masters Swimmer can use the code ARUSMS for $10 off their registration. Registration fees increase as the date approaches)

Aug. 3-7, 2022, Summer Nationals – LCM, Richmond, VA

Sept. 25, 2022, Walmart Oz Mile, Beaver Lake Dam Site, Eureka Springs, AR. (Any active Ark Masters member can the code ARKMUSMS for a $10 discount off registration. Registration fees increase as the date approaches)

Hall of Fame Meet in Little Rock – New Records!

The 16th annual Hall of Fame meet took place on Saturday, May 7th. Congratulations to these folks on setting new records that day:

Linda Bland (65 – 69): 100 Free State and Citizen, 500 Free State and Citizen

Dottie Burke (80 – 84): 100 IM State and Citizen

Steven Stitt (75 – 79): 100 Free State

Byron Shefchik (45 – 49): 50 Back State and Citizen, 200 Back State and Citizen, 200 Fly State, 200 Free State

Srdan Markovic (35 – 39): 50 Breast State and Citizen

Calvin Schildknecht (35 – 39): 200 IM State and Citizen

Open Water Swim Practices

Are you curious about open water swimming? Are you signing up for some of the Arkansas open water races this year? There is a group that goes out to Beaver Lake, Hwy 12 Boat Ramp in Rogers, SWIM OZ. They are there every Wednesday evening for a splash time of 6PM. This is a guided open water swim opportunity. Swimmers must be USMS registered and there is a $10 fee. See SWIM OZ for details and to digitally sign a waiver before you attend. 

“Learn from the Best” Panel Discussion

The North Texas LMSC is hosting a panel discussion on Saturday July 9th from 10:00am – 11:30am (limited to first 50 registrants).  Listen to three long standing, world ranked masters swimmers, Laura Warren, James Fike, and David Guthrie discuss their “best practices” and answer YOUR questions in the following areas:

a.      Pool training i.e. seasonal planning, drills, sets, yardage

b.      Dry land/stretching/injury prevention/injury recovery

c.      Lifestyle – i.e. eating, drinking, sleeping habits

d.      Swim meet routine i.e. warm up/down, eating, nerves, visualization, ease sore muscles
