Swimmer of the Year

Each year an Arkansas Masters Swimmer of the Year award is given to an ARKM swimmer who “excels in and/or out of the pool, and who contributes to the spirit of Arkansas Masters Swimming.”  We are currently seeking nominations for this award, so if you would like to nominate someone, please send a short email to Bonnie Adams by Jan. 15, 2020.  Bonnie’s email is

It’s a New Year!

January is a good time to set some swimming goals for the new year:  Swim in a meet, swim faster, swim further, set a record, swim in an open water event, volunteer in an Adult Learn to Swim class…   Setting goals is a motivator for sure. One opportunity is the Go the Distance Event which is sponsored each year by USMS.  Here’s the link to all the info on tracking your yardage and to the milestone awards available.  Scott Halliburton holds the award for high yardage for Arkansas for 2019 with a grand total of 709 miles!  

Records broken at Santa Splash

Several state and citizen records were broken at the Santa Splash in Springdale last month:
Deanna Marks:  50, 100, and 200 Free, 100 breast, 200 IM, 100 Back (all state and citizen records)
Byron Shefchik:  100 Free and 100 Breast (state and citizen records)
Carie O’Banion:  50, 100 and 200 Free,  50 and 100 Fly, and 200 IM (State and citizen records)
